The south-west Trnava Region is a strangely shaped body of land that encloses Bratislava Region and borders on the Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary.
The southern part of the region, the Podunajská nížina (Danube lowlands), is separated from the Záhorská nížina (Záhorie lowlands) in the north by the Malé Karpaty (Small Carpathian mountains). It is crossed by a number of rivers, including the Morava in the west, the Váh in the centre, and the Malý Dunaj and the Danube in the south.
It is the second smallest region after Bratislava, and the smallest in terms of area. It is also the second most densely settled behind Bratislava. The most heavily populated districts are Trnava, Hlohovec and Piešťany, and the least Senica.

Kaštieľ Dolná Krupá (Manor House)
The Manor House was originally built in 1756, rebuilt in 1796 and
then redesigned 20 years later, is one of themost important
examples of classicist architecture in Slovakia. Ludwig van Beethoven
visited the manor house at least three times between 1800 and 1806,
and supposedly this place, inspired him to compose the Moonlight Sonata.
The musical theme dominates the manor house, which is now a
branch of the National Musical Museum and contains temporary
exhibitions to complement a permanent collection in Bratislava. Beethoven's
life and work is remembered in a small exhibition in the outlying Rococo
pavilion, while the main manor has been used as a meeting place for composers
and musicians since 1978.
